From Egypt to Canaan

#2d Overview Diagram
Part of the series on the Flow of OT History

A new Pharaoh came to power and he was concerned that there were so many Israelites living in Egypt who might align with their enemies in the event of war. So the Egyptians forced the Israelites to become their slaves to help build their cities.

God appeared to Moses in a burning bush and told him to go to Pharaoh and bring His people out of Egypt. In the last plague, the angel of death “passed over” the houses of the Israelites which were smeared with the blood of a one-year-old male lamb without defect. The firstborn of human and beast in the other houses were killed.

The Book of EXODUS tells us of the formation of a people of God by:
  • His mighty acts of redemption (Exodus 1-18)
  • His covenant (Exodus 19-24) and
  • His presence (Exodus 25-40)
The books of NUMBERS, DEUTERONOMY, JOSHUA and JUDGES continue the story and tell us of...
  • Failure of the Israelites to trust God to fulfil His promise to give them the Promised Land and the consequent 40 years of wandering in the wilderness till the adult population who were 20 years old and above (except Joshua and Caleb) died off
  • Fulfilment of God’s promise to the new generation of Israelites and the blessing of victory over the inhabitants of the land as they obey God
  • But after that whole generation had died, the new (another) generation of Israelites forsook the LORD and experienced the curses of defeat and oppression by their enemies.
Your assignment, should you decide to accept it is to draw the above diagram and explain it to someone else who is not in the course. As before, God bless you as you work on your assignment.
